Fellowships The Academy shall consist of the following categories of Fellows: (i) Fellows, (ii) Foreign Fellows, (iii) Expatriate Fellows and (iv) Associate Fellows (i) Fellows (a) Fellows of the Academy shall be persons eminent for their original contribution to science and their number shall be limited to 100. Fellows of erstwhile Pakistan Academy of Sciences, who are citizens of Bangladesh, shall be the Founding Fellows of the Academy. Not more than ten Fellows shall be elected each year until the limit of 100 is reached. (b) Any vacancy occurring through resignation, retirement, demise etc. shall be filled by the Academy following the rules prescribed in the Regulation for Election of Fellows. (ii) Foreign Fellows Foreign Fellows shall be persons who are eminent for their knowledge of or contribution to science and are domiciled outside the territorial limits of Bangladesh. (iii) Expatriate Fellows Eminent scientists of Bangladesh living abroad permanently or temporarily are eligible for election as Expatriate Fellows. A maximum of three such fellows may be elected each year until the ceiling of 20 is reached. (iv) Associate Fellows Young scientists, who are below 45 (forty five) years of age having PhD, /FCPS/FRCP/FRCS/MRCP, MD, MS, M Phil and equivalent in science streams but are of exceptional talent and promise, and have contributed to science and technology in recognized field, are eligible for election as Associate Fellow (AF). Not more than three (3) Associate Fellows be elected in a year until the ceiling of 15 (fifteen) is reached. Admission Fee (i) A new Fellow will pay an admission fee of Tk. 5,000/- (Taka five thousand) only after induction. This fee is to be paid within three months after the issue of the notice of his/her election as a Fellow. If this fee is not paid within three months, his/her election will be declared null and void, provided that the Council shall have the power to reinstate him/her with full privileges after his/her admission fee has been paid within a period not exceeding 12 months from the date of his/her election. (ii) An Expatriate Fellow will pay an admission fee of US$500 (US Dollars five hundred) only at a time. However, in addition to the admission fee, he/she may contribute any amount he /she may wish as donation to the Academy. (iii) A Foreign Fellow may contribute any amount he/she may wish as donation to the Academy. (iv) An Associate Fellow will pay an admission fee of Tk. 2000 (Taka two thousand) only at a time. However, in addition to the admission fee, he/she may contribute any amount he/she may wish as donation to the Academy.
