Professor Kazi Abdul Latif was born on 1 January, 1926 at Comilla, Bangladesh.

Dr. Abdul Latif passed Matriculation from Devidwar R. H. E. School, Comilla in 1941, I.Sc. Examination from Comilla Victoria College in 1943 under Calcutta University. He got his B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in 1946 and M.Sc. in 1947 in Chemistry from Dhaka University. He obtained Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the Ohio State University, USA in 1952.

Dr. Abdul Latif was appointed Lecturer in Chemistry, Dhaka University, in March, 1948; Reader of the Department of Chemistry, Rajshahi University, February 1958 - November 1962. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, Rajshahi University, November 1962 - July 1977. Full time Member, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (on deputation from Rajshahi University) from July 1977 - July 1985. On completion of the deputation period, joined Rajshahi University as Professor of Chemistry and asked for voluntary retirement. Again joined the University Grants Commission (after retirement) on contract basis as Coordinator, Business Management Education and Training Project in September 1985 and continued up to February 1990. Worked as a part-time teacher of the Department of Chemistry, Dhaka University for a number of sessions.

Dr. Latif was offered DAAD Fellowship, UNESCO Scholarship of the British Council.

He Published a number of research papers in journals at home and abroad. Professor Abdul Latif was the co-author of a text book on Organic Chemistry.

Professor Abdul Latif served as House Tutor, Salimullah Muslim Hall, Dhaka University from 1953 - 1958. He was the founder Head of the Department of Chemistry, Rajshahi University from 1958-1977. Worked as the first Provost of Nawab Abdul Latif Hall, Rajshahi University from 1964-1967. Served as Dean of the Faculty of Science, Rajshahi University during 1961-1962, 1967-1968 and 1976-1977. Served as a member of different bodies of the Rajshahi University, such as the Senate, Syndicate, Finance Committee, Academic Council etc. He was a member of the Syndicate of the National University of Bangladesh.

Dr. Latif was elected a Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 1979. Has been a founder member of the Bangladesh Chemical Society, and was elected as the President during 1987 and 1988.

Dr. Abdul Latif visited a number of Universities in West Germany in 1965 (Three months) under DAAD Fellowship. Represented the then Pakistan at the Conference of the British Association for the Advancement of Science held in September 1970 at Durham, U. K. Also visited a number of British Universities in 1970 at the invitation of the British Council. Attended a UNESCO seminar on higher education in Bangkok in 1980. Visited a number of U.S. Universities as a UNESCO Visting Fellow in 1985 and attended the Annual Conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Acted as the Chief Editor of the Journal of Bangladesh Chemical Society.

Professor Kazi Abdul Latif expired on 20 June 2005.
