Dr. Mahmuda Begum is a Senior Scientific Officer at the Zoology Section of Biological Research Division. She obtained her BSc (Hons.) and MS degree in Zoology (Fisheries) from the University of Dhaka. She received her PhD in Life Science from the University of Nottingham, UK in 2021. She was awarded the University of Nottingham Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship, UK and Bangabandhu S & T Fellowship, Bangladesh to accomplish her PhD degree. Dr. Mahmuda’s research interest includes evolutionary genetics, molecular ecology, genotoxicity, developmental biology (Zebra fish) and biotechnology. Her current research projects concern the DNA barcoding, breeding line development of a model fish, development of molecular biomarker in fish and their microbes for environmental pollutantion. She is an active member of FSBI, BSP, BAAS and ZSB. Recently, Dr. Mahmuda has been elected as an Associate Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS) in 2024.
