Dr. Md. Nurealam Siddiqui serving as an Associate Professor in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur with 12 years of teaching and research experiences in the field of plant stress physiology, quantitative genetics and molecular breeding and molecular plant nutrition. He has received PhD in crop molecular genetics from the University of Bonn, Germany in 2022 obtaining magna cum laude as a recipient of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Fellowship. He is currently serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE) and Institute for Plant Sciences in Montpellier (IPSiM), University of Montpellier in France funded by Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) Fellowship under French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Siddiqui is well experienced with research methods and teaching strategies of plant physiology and molecular biology. Besides this, he has experience in high-throughput phenotyping, quantitative genetics and genome analysis in modern plant breeding. He has developed a unique skill set that encompasses genome-wide association studies (GWAS), large-scale phenotyping, statistical analysis of phenotypic data, cutting-edge molecular tools, transcriptomics, nutrient uptake, transport and biochemical analyses. He has also developed skills on the bioinformatics tools and functional characterization of genes/proteins combining genetic, phenotypic, physiological and molecular techniques.
In recognition of academic achievements, Dr. Md. Nurealam Siddiqui awarded several prestigious fellowship and awards like “DAAD Fellowship” for pursuing PhD, “Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) Visting Fellowship” funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, “Japan-East Asia Network Exchange (JENESYS) Fellowship” in Japan as Visiting Fellow, “BSMRAU-TA Research Award” in 2021 and 2022 for outstanding research accomplishment and “DAAD Outstanding Involvement Award 2021” among international students studying in German Universities, Next Generation Scientist Award 2023 by the New Phytologist Foundation and Young Scientist Travel Award 2024 by the International Plant Phenotyping Network (IPPN). In addition, he has been awarded “BAS-Gold Medal Award 2023” by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) in Biological Science (Junior Group) for his excellent research contribution in science. He also elected as “Associate Fellow” of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) for the year of 2023.
Dr. Siddiqui has been successfully conducting several research projects funded by different national and international organizations like German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), German Research Foundation (DFG), French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST), People’s Republic of Bangladesh, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh etc. He has published ˃50 research articles in high reputed peer-reviewed journals such as New Phytologist, Journal of Experimental Botany, Chemosphere, Physiologia Plantarum, The Plant Genome, BMC Plant Biology, Scientific Reports etc. Dr. Siddiqui has presented his research findings at numerous international conferences and symposia in USA, Germany, Singapore, Japan and Pakistan. Currently he is serving as guest editors and reviewers in several highly reputed international journals. He has achieved ˃2600 total citations with h-index 24 till now. He is actively involved in many professional networks/organizations at home and abroad. Dr. Siddiqui is involved in his home country, where he supports poorer students, for example, so that they can access higher educational opportunities. He donates part of his income to help people affected in a variety of ways by flooding, poverty and malnutrition.
