Prof. Dr. Md. Tanvir Rahman

Dr. Md. Tanvir Rahman is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University and former Director of Professor  Mohammad Hossain Central Lab and International Desk, Bangladesh Agricultural University.

Prof. Rahman is also a Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS). Her is also an Adjunct Visiting Professor of Xinxiang University, Henan, China. Prof. Rahman completed DVM from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).  Later he completed MSc and PhD from University of Guelph, Canada and University of Warwick, UK respectively and Postdoc from the Max-Planck-Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, Marburg, Germany.

Earlier Prof. Rahman worked as the Consultant for the Government of Bangladesh, PI for LPVRPC(Livestock and Poultry Vaccine Research and Production Centre), Bangladesh Agricultural University and Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, BAU, He was also the former , and Ex-Head of the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, BAU. Prof. Rahman is also involved with several National Committee as expert Member  e.g., 1). Technical expert committee for the development of AMR surveillance protocol, Department of Livestock Service, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. 2). Technical Committee on Biological Risk and Biosecurity, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. 3). Member, Food Hygiene and Safety Management Sectional Committee (AFSC-25). Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI)f Bangladesh. 4). Member, Committee on Microbiology-1 (Dairy), Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

His major expertise includes antibiotic resistance, molecular ecology, genomics, virulence and public health, One health. Prof. Rahman is an foreign expert of One Health Action Commission of Shanghai Jiao Tong Univetdoty, Shanghai, China and has strong research collaboratin with several research organization including University of Oxford, UK, Techical University of Munich, Germany, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing , China.

So far Prof. Rahman has published more than 203 papers in peer-reviewed National and International journals ( h inmdex=41, citation over 6100 , as of April 2025) including Veterinary Microbiology, The ISME Journal, Microbial Drug Resistance, Journal of Bacteriology, Applied and Environmental Microbiology etc. As a research team leader, Prof. Rahman has worked as supervisor and co-supervisor for 100 MS and PhD students. Hew is also serving as the member of the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals including Section Editor: Journal of Veterinary Science, Editor, Science in One Health, Editor: Animal Research and  One Health,Editor and Academic Editor, PLOS ONE, Editor Scientific Reports..
