Md Khaled Hossain is a professor in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh, USA (https://www.sph.pitt.edu/eoh/directory/adjunct-faculty). Dr. Hossain completed his bachelor's (B.Sc) and master's (M.Sc) degrees in biochemistry from the University of Rajshahi. He earned a Monbusho scholarship for his Ph.D.-level research and obtained his PhD degree from Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan. He received several prestigious fellowships—TBRF (Japan), JSPS (Japan), Commonwealth Staff Fellowship (UK), Fulbright Fellowship (USA), and JSPS Invitational (Short-term) Fellowship (Japan) for his postdoctoral and collaborative research. He was a visiting professor (2005-2007) at Chubu University, Japan, under the JSPS fellowship program. He has published 92 papers and one book chapter. His research focuses on understanding the effects of environmental chemicals, particularly arsenic, on human health. He is a member of the Advisory Board of “Metallomics Research,” an international editorial board member of “Environmental Health and Preventive Medicine (EHPM),” and an academic editor of “Plos One.”
He has published a good number of papers in the leading journals of his research field, including Environmental Health Perspectives, Environment International, and Science of the Total Environment. Dr. Hossain received several awards in recognition of his contribution to research: i) Gold Medal Award (Junior Group)-2007 by Bangladesh Academy of Sciences ii) Dean’s Award-2014, Faculty of Science, University of Rajshahi. iii) Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiatives (ideSHi) Award—2014. iv) Dean’s Award-2017, Faculty of Science, University of Rajshahi v) Dean’s Award-2020, Faculty of Science, University of Rajshahi. vi) Dean’s Award-2023, Faculty of Science, University of Rajshahi vii) Dean’s Article Award-2020, Faculty of Science, University of Rajshahi for the best article in 2019 viii) Dean’s Article Award-2022, Faculty of Science, University of Rajshahi for the best article in 2021. ix) Dean’s Article Award-2024, Faculty of Science, University of Rajshahi for the best article in 2023. He also received the Rajshahi University Awards in 1991 (for B.Sc.) and 1992 (for M.Sc.) for the best academic results in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Dr. Hossain’s research has been funded by several domestic and international grants that included Ministry of Science and Technology (Bangladesh Government) research grant, Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) research grants, Rajshahi University research grant, and TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences, Trieste, Italy) research grant. He received three grants (2013-2015, 2010-2011, and 2008-2009) from TWAS. He has presented his research in the seminars, symposiums, and conferences held in several countries, including Japan, South Korea, Sweden, the USA, the UK, and Thailand. He is well experienced in collaborative research with the scientists in Japan, the USA, Sweden, the UK, Germany, and South Korea.
