Professor Dr Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman

Professor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman is a distinguished academic at the Department of Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), specializing in Environmental Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Environmental) from the University of Virginia, USA in 1992, following his M.Sc. (1987) and B.Sc. (1984) in Civil Engineering from BUET. His research interests span aquatic chemistry, heavy metal speciation and transport, surface and groundwater quality modeling, water and wastewater treatment, arsenic contamination, solid waste management, environmental impact assessment, and environmental management systems.

Professor Badruzzaman has received several prestigious awards for his groundbreaking contributions to environmental engineering. Notably, he was part of the team awarded the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Prize for Water in 2012 for pioneering work on arsenic contamination in groundwater, and he received the ITEX Gold Medal in 2019 for the invention of NB-Care, a universal platform for vertical applications. His research on arsenic desorption processes in Bangladesh sediments earned the Most Cited Paper Award from Chemical Geology (2005–2010). Earlier in his career, he was honored with the Chi Epsilon Award as the top Civil Engineering graduate student at the University of Virginia in 1991.
