Dr. Engr. Imran Khan is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Bangladesh. He earned his PhD in Energy Management and Sustainability from the Centre for Sustainability and the Department of Physics at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Dr. Khan also holds an M.Sc. in Engineering in ECE, jointly completed at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and KUET, Bangladesh, he also completed his B.Sc. in Engineering from KUET. His academic excellence was recognized with a University Gold Medal for outstanding undergraduate results. Additionally, he pursued postdoctoral research at the Faculty of Environmental Management at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand.
Dr. Khan has held several administrative roles at his university, including Founding Chairman of the EEE Department, Director of ICT Cell, Adviser to the Research Cell, Dean (in-charge) of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and Elected Academic Council Member.
As a multidisciplinary academic and researcher, Dr. Khan focuses on the interconnectedness of technology, society, environment, and economy, with a strong emphasis on energy and sustainability. His research spans diverse areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy applications, household energy demand analysis, demand-side management, sustainable energy development, climate change, prosumerism, waste-to-energy solutions, agrivoltaics, and floating photovoltaic systems. His work contributes to energy sustainability related policy development in resource efficiency and resilience.
Dr. Khan leads the Energy Research Lab at Jashore University of Science and Technology. He has led numerous research projects funded by both university and government sources. He has supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students in energy and sustainability fields. Dr. Khan has authored and coauthored numerous research articles in reputed refereed journals and conference proceedings, in addition to several book chapters published by reputed international publishers. His research is widely published in reputable journals like Renewable Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments, and Energy Research and Social Science. He is also the editor of the book ‘Renewable Energy and Sustainability: Prospects in the Developing Economies’, published by Elsevier, highlighting his commitment to advancing sustainability research.
Dr. Khan regularly presents at IEEE conferences, where he has served as a Session Chair and Technical Co-Chair. He has delivered invited talks for companies like Bosch Limited, India. As an Associate Editor for Discover Applied Sciences journal published by Springer Nature, he oversees the engineering section. He also serves as the Section Editor for Sustainable Electricity section. He acted as special issue Editor for multiple journals as well.
Dr. Khan has been recognized among the top 2% of scientists in the world by Stanford University and Elsevier for his citations. He also serves as a reviewer for several prestigious journals and received outstanding reviewer recognition for journals such as Applied Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Renewable Energy. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), and an enlisted reviewer for the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC).
