Professor Dr. Md. Anamul Hoque, son of Md. Azit-Ulla and Mrs Amena Begum, was born on June 30, 1979 at Maznabari village of Kazipur Upazilla in Sirajganj district. He completed primary education from Majnabari primary School (Kazipur, Sirajganj), secondary education from Ragunathpur High School (Kazipur, Sirajganj) under Rajshahi Education Board, and higher secondary education from Sarishabari Riazuddin Talukder College (Sarishabari, Jamalpur) under Dhaka Education Board. After that, he got admitted to the undergraduate program in Chemistry at Jahangirnagar University in the academic session of 1996-1997. He completed B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Chemistry and earned first class first and first class third positions in the respective degrees. He had the great opportunity to perform one-year M.Sc. research work under the supervision of renowned scholar and Scientist Prof. Dr. Farida Akhtar. He successfully completed his Ph.D. degree in 2008 under the joint supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Khan and Prof. Dr. Farida Akhtar from the Department of Chemistry, JU. Prof. Hoque started his academic career as a Lecturer of Chemistry at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) in September 2005 and later he was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2008. In August 2009, he joined as a Lecturer of Chemistry at Jahangirnagar University (JU). Dr. Md. Anamul Hoque was promoted to Professor position at the Department of Chemistry of JU in 2016. Prof. Hoque has received Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Gold Medal Award-2023 in Physical Sciences (Senior Group) in recognition of his outstanding research accomplishments.
Since his joining at Jahangirnagar University, Prof. Hoque has been actively involved in research activities. To date, Prof. Hoque has supervised 52 Master’s thesis students as a principal supervisor and co-supervisor. He also worked as a principal supervisor and co-supervisor of five PhD researchers who has already completed their PhD degree. Currently, Prof. Hoque is actively supervising and guiding the research activities of 7 PhD and 2 MPhil researchers as a Principal Investigator. In last several years, Prof. Hoque has successfully completed 19 research projects funded by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Government Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, Bangladesh University Grants Commission and Janhangirnagar University. Prof. Hoque has produced 192 publications in different peer-reviewed, prestigious, and highly recognized international (169) and national (23) Journals. Prof. Hoque has participated at several National and International Conferences as well as workshops where he presented his original research findings.
Prof. Hoque has been focusing on the interactions of antibiotic drugs and biological molecules like proteins with surface active agents, metal ions, and polymers as well as removal of dyes from wastewater bodies using surfactant solutions. Since various surfactants have been extensively used in pharmaceuticals, foods, cosmetics, cleaning agents, textiles, etc., the research works conducted by Prof. Hoque’s research group will play a vital role in different industries and will scientifically promote our country with the advancement of science and technology.
Prof. Hoque has also developed strong international research collaboration with various research groups at different universities in the USA, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam which potentially help him to expand and flourish his research activities with the improvement of research novelties. Some of his international collaborators are Dr. Mohammed Abdul Halim (Kennesaw State University, USA), Dr. Md. Abdul Goni (South Carolina State University, USA), Dr. Malik Abdul Rub (King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia), Javed Masood Khan (King Saud University, Saudi Arabia) and Dr. Dileep Kumar (Van Lang University, Vietnam).
Prof. Hoque has been endowed with a very strong and potential research profile with h-index: 37, i10-index: 123 and total citations: 4333. Prof. Hoque has been highly recognized to national and international scientific community and received the prestigious status of “top 2% of the world Scientists” as announced and published by Stanford University in both 2023 and 2024.
