Prof. Dr. Emdadul Haque Chowdhury was born on 26 August 1966.

Prof. Chowdhury is a seasoned academician and researcher with over 30 years of teaching and research experience, specializing in veterinary pathology, transboundary animal diseases and food safety with proven leadership in academic administration. He obtained DVM and M. Sc. from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh, doctoral degree from the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 1999 and post doctorate from the National Institute of Animal Health, Tsukuba, Japan during 2001 - 2002. He has been working as a faculty at the Department of Pathology, BAU, Mymensingh since 1995 and as professor since 2008, as adjunct professor at the Interdisciplinary Institute of Food Security (IIFS), BAU since 2014. Prof. Chowdhury was an adjunct professor at the Department of Biotechnology, BAU, Mymensingh.

Prof. Chowdhury worked as the Vice-Chancellor, BAU, Mymensingh and led the university through academic reforms, research innovations, and national and international collaborations. He worked with several administrative positions in BAU including Director Planning and Development, Head of the Department, Provost, etc. He worked as a syndicate member of several universities including Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Bangabandhu Seikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University.

Prof. Chowdhury published >170 research articles in highly indexed journals and delivered keynote speech at various academic & professional meetings at home and abroad. He supervised > 80 M.S. and 20 Ph.D. students.  In recognition of his contributions to research, awarded Best Young Presentation Award 1999 by the Bangladesh Society for Veterinary Education and Research, best poster award 2013 by Centre for Action Research. Also received the Best Publication Award in 2014 from BAU Teachers Association and BAU Global Research Impact Award in 2019 and 2022. Prof. Chowdhury scored 100% proficiency in molecular diagnosis of goat viral diseases through proficiency tests organized by IAEA, Vienna, Austria. Prof. Chowdhury has also built strong research collaborations with colleagues from Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Austria, Japan, Indonesia, USA, etc.

Prof. Chowdhury, s work impacted significantly to the field problem of the livestock sector. He developed a model “Doorstep Veterinary Service” at rural Bangladesh which has been implementing recently by the Department of Livestock Department the country in the form of Mobile Veterinary Clinic to produce safe animal protein. He developed several diagnostic methods for livestock diseases and a highly inexpensive organic sanitizer from ashes as an alternative to chemical sanitizer.

Prof. Chowdhury is contributing substantially to various decision-making at the policy level, through his role as an expert member of various national and international committees. He acted as a consultant for ICDDRB, FAO, IUCN, Department of Environment and Bangladesh Institute of Developmental Studies & took leadership role in several national (MOE, UGC, SPGR, BLRI, BAURES) and foreign aided (IAEA, FAO, USDA, TWAS) projects. He has been serving as editor/member of the editorial board for Bangladesh Veterinary Journal, The Bangladesh Veterinarian and Bangladesh Livestock Journal, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Journal and as Chief Editor for WVPA_BB e-bulletin. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the European Society for Biosafety, World Vet Poultry Association, World Poultry Science Association, etc. Prof. Chowdhury very recently has been elected as Fellow of Bangladesh College of Veterinary Surgeons (BCVS) and Fellow, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS).  

Prof. Chowdhury visited Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Japan, Lichtenstein, UAE, India, Thailand, USA, China, England, Indonesia, Burkina Faso, Malaysia, South Korea, KSA, The Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Philippines, Singapore mostly for the academic drives.
