Bangladesh Academy of Sciences

 The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP), Oxford, UK are jointly organizing a 4- day Steering Committee Meeting during 11-14 May 2009 at the BRAC Centre Inn Hotel, Dhaka. The INASP is a charity in UK dedicated to provide the scientists, researchers, teachers, students and the academic community of developing world with books, journals and information. The INASP has introduced a world wide on-line journal network of which 23 countries of the world including Bangladesh are members.  33 foreign delegates from the member countries of UK, Latin America, Africa and Asia are participating in this meeting.    


The Academy coordinates this program in Bangladesh and provides these facilities to the Universities and R&D organizations of Bangladesh. The scientists, researchers, teachers, students of those organizations enjoy the benefit of more than four thousand journals, periodicals etc. on-line  at a very low-cost. Prof. Dr. M Shamsher Ali, President of the Academy will inaugurate the Steering Committee Meeting.  Mr. Mahfuz Anam, Editor, The Daily Star has consented to be the Guest of Honour during the Inauguration. Ms. Sara Gwynn, Director of Programmes of INASP will be the special guest during the occasion. Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary, BAS and Member-Secretary, Advisory Committee of the Network will moderate the inaugural session and deliver the welcome address.
