Bangladesh Academy of Sciences

A seminar on “Structuring Research–Intensive Institutions:  A transformative Road Map” presented by Professor Mohammad A. Karim, Vice-President for Research, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, USA and an Expatriate Fellow of  Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) was held on Monday 27 December 2010 in the Auditorium of Bangladesh  Atomic Energy Centre, Shahbag, Dhaka.

In his presentation, Professor Karim referred to the per capita investment in research and education in Asian countries like Korea, Malaysia which is increasing compared to those of other countries. Among Bangladeshi Universities, only Dhaka University is included in ranking but its position is far too below. One Chinese University stands at the top. Bangladesh needs to invest heavily in research and education to catch up the race.

National Professor Dr. A.K.M. Aminul Haque, Vice-President of BAS presided over the Seminar. Professor Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary, BAS moderated the function.
