Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) organized two seminars on Sunday 19 December in the Auditorium of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Centre, Ramna, Dhaka titled “ Beyond the Borders of Science” presented by Dr. A S B Tariq, Associate Professor , Department of Physics, Rajshahi University and another titled “ Meeting with New Champions: Sharing the Experiences of Summer Davos by Dr. Charisma F. Choudhury, Department Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) .

The speakers shared their experiences at the 3rd Inter Academy Panel (IAP) held in conjunction with the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions held inTianjin,
Dr. Tariq in his presentation stated that the IAP facilitated young scientists’ interaction with ministers from countries of the North and South (China, Canada, Mozambique, Vietnam, Zimbabwe etc.), hundreds of leading entrepreneurs (industry owners, CEOs and top level people from world’s leading companies), representatives of leading news media (BBC, CNN, Bloomberg, NHK, Reuters, etc), apart from meeting young scientists from other countries.
A number of new ideas from Ministers (e.g. Thousand Young Talents Program of China, Increase in the Country’s Talent Pool, Incentives to Relocate Young Scientists in Smaller Cities, Science and Technology within the Ministry of Industry, etc); from Entrepreneurs (Centres of Innovation Clustered in small localities with string bases of Basic Sciences, etc.) and from young scientists (nascent “Young National Academies” movement, like Die Junke Academie in Germany followed by the Netherlends, Sudan, Nigeria etc leading to Global Young Academy supported by Inter Academy Panel (IAP) were presented in the meeting.

The seminars, chaired by Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, President, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and moderated by Professor Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary of the Academy, were followed by open discussion.
