Visit of the USDA delegates to BAS
A 3-member delegate of the United States Department of Agricultural (USDA) comprising of Ms. Patricia Sheikh, Deputy Administrator, Capacity Building and Development,USDA, Mr. David Leishman, Sr. Agricultural Attache, FAS / USDA and Mr. Marc Gilkey, Aphid Attache, FAS/USDA visited Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) and participated in a discussion meeting with the Council Members of the Academy. Under an agreement between the Govt. of Bangladesh and the United States, the USDA has granted a research fund as Endowment to pursue adaptive researches in the field of Agricultural and Life sciences to attain Food Security through increased production and poverty alleviation.
National Professor AKM Aminul Haque, Vice President of the Academy steered the discussion. Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmad, Prof. Dr. Syed M. Humayun Kabir, Prof. Mohammad Kaykobad, National Prof. Dr. M.R. Khan, Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam, Prof. Dr. Quazi Abdul Fattah, Dr. K.M. Sultanul Aziz, Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Dr. M A Mazed and Dr. M Gul Hossain were also present in the meeting. A heart to heart discussion took place. The delegates reviewed the progress of the BAS-USDA Program in Agricultural and Life Sciences, achieved so far and also indicated the future areas of cooperation.
