

Professor Dr. Richard R Ernst, Nobel Laureate came to Bangladesh on a 3-day visit during 27-29 October 2008 at the invitation of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. The Academy arranged the Dr. M.O. Ghani Memorial Lecture in honor of Late Professor Dr. M.O. Ghani, Founding Fellow and former President of the Academy in the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhavan, University of Dhaka on Monday, 27 October 2008 at 3.00 pm. Nobel Laureate Professor Ernst delivered a thoughtful lecture on Man and Nature on the occasion covering the present socio-economic and environmental problems and remedial measures to face the challenges facing the mankind. A large number of audience including Vice Chancellors, National Professors, Deans of Faculties, Chairmen of Departments, teachers and researchers from all over Bangladesh enjoyed the deliberation and took active part in discussion. Visiting Nobel Laureate Scientist, Professor Richard R. Ernst, accompanied by Professor Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, President, BAS, National Professor Dr. AKM Aminul Haque, Vice President, BAS and Professor Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Secretary, BAS paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in his office in the morning of 28 October 2008. Nobel Laureate Professor Richard R Ernst delivered a popular lecture on the topic My Pathway into Science and Beyond on Tuesday, 28 October 2008 at 4.00 pm organized by the Southeast University at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center. The BAS Council, Fellows, Dignitaries, Members of Governing Body of Southeast University, teachers and students and city elites attended the lecture, followed by a lively discussion session. The print and electronic media gave wide coverage to the visit of Professor Richard R. Ernst including telecast of his interviews.
