Biography

B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Botany from Dhaka University in 1966 and 1967, Ph.D from London University, U.K. in 1977.
USAID (1970), Dhaka University (1972 - 1977), The British Council (1985), COSTED (1986), Commonwealth Science Council (1987), ANBS (1988), UNESCO (1990), NORAD (1992), Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh (1995).
Eden College as Lecturer in 1968 and as Lecturer in the Department of Botany, Dhaka University in 1970, Professor in 1989. She became Pro Vice-Chancullor of Dhaka University prior to becoming Chairman, Bangladesh Public Service Commission from 9 May, 2002 - 7 May, 2007. She was Chairperson of the Department of Botany. Provost of Rokeya Hall, Dhaka University (1990 - 1996), Executive Member of National Women Sangstha (1993 - 1996). Elected Member of Senate (1994 - 1997, 2000 - 2002), Syndicate (1994 - 1996, 2005 - 2007) of Dhaka University, Teachers Association (8 terms). Syndicate member, BAU, Mymensingh (1994 - 1996, 1996 - 1998). President, Bangladesh National Rose Society (1999 - 2001), Member of different selection committees of the University of Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University, Chittagong University, Khulna University, Bangladesh Agricultural University.
So far 56 research papers published in national and international journals. During irradiation and electron microscopic study she discovered a new structure (Tubular elements) in a Bangladeshi cyanobacterium (published in Journal of Cell Science, U.K. 1977).
Attended and participated in many symposia, seminar and conference in Australia, China, Brazil, England, India, Nepal, Pakistan and United States of America
