Biography
B.Sc. (1955) and M.Sc. (1957) in Zoology from the Dhaka University and Ph.D. (1963) in Zoology from the University of Reading, England; was NRC Post-doctoral Fellow (1967 - 1971), Associate Professor (1971 - 1978) and Professor (1978 - to date) in Zoology, University of Alberta; Instructor in Zoology, Duke University, Durham North Carolina; Asst. Professor (1967 - 1971), Associate Professor (1967 - 1978) and Professor (1978 - to date) in the Department of Biology, York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; on Sabbatical leave to England (1973 - 1974) and France (1988 - 1989).
Awarded stipend from Department of Education, Bangladesh; Residence Scholarship from Dhaka University; Prize for standing First in M.Sc. and Burma Oil Company's Overseas Scholarship.
Worked at various Marine Laboratories of North America, including Woods Hole, Friday Harbour Lab., and Marinbiologiske Laboratorium Gaspe. Worked at National Museum of Canada, Smithsonian Institute and Comparative Museum of Zoology, Harvard. Worked Three summers (1967 - 1969) at Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas. This work was supported by Ford Foundation and minor Research Grant of York University. Spent a year at University of Reading (1973 - 1974) and worked on calcium metabolism in chick embryo. Spent two sabbatical years at University de Besancon, France, and worked on endocrine control of osmoregulation (1981 - 1982) and reproduction (1988 - 1989) in Helix aspersa
Edited books entitled ‘The Mollusca: Physiology', Volumes 4 & 5, Academic Press (1983) and ‘Neurobiology and endocrinology of selected invertebrates.’ Captus York University Press (1990); More than 125 publications in the international refereed journals and presented about another hundred papers in seminars and workshops held in different countries of the world; Member of Graduate Supervisory Committee of 50 students; Member of Examination Committee of 30 students; Supervised 20 Graduate students; Guided 12 Post-doctoral Fellows and Research Associates.
To deliver lectures and as research scientist visited many countries in all the continents of the world; served in many academic, administrative, public and professional committees, bodies, societies of the Universities in USA, Canada, Europe and Asia.
