Biography

He graduated with Honours in Chemistry in 1952 and passed M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1953 from the University of Dhaka. He worked for a year as a Research Assistant in the research project on medicinal plants and then joined the Department of Chemistry, University of Dhaka, as a Junior Lecturer in 1955. He worked for two years in this position and then joined the Department of Biochemistry in the same University. He was awarded Colombo Plan Scholarship in 1957 for higher studies at the Department of Chemistry, University of Ottawa, Canada, and was awarded Ph.D. for his work on alkaloids.

Professor Khan joined the Department of Biochemistry, University of Dhaka as Lecturer in 1960. He was promoted to the position of Associate Professor in 1964 and was appointed as a Professor in 1975. He was elected as Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 1978. Professor Khan was recipient of SEATO Fellowship (1970) and United Nation's Unviersity Fellowship (1984) to work on Vitamin-A and high protein food, respectively. He is member of different scientific societies, such as Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science, Bangladesh Biochemical Society (Life Member), and Nutrition Society of Bangladesh (Life Member). He worked, in different capcities, in the Executive Committee of the above scientific societies. Professor Khan was elected Member of Senate, University of Dhaka (1989 - 1991).
Professor Khan served, for several terms, as Member of the Board of Gevernors of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Dhaka. He has research interests in natural products and in nurition. He published a number of research papers in nationl and international journals.
He is member of different scientific societies, such as Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science, Bangladesh Biochemical Society (Life Member), and Nutrition Society of Bangladesh (Life Member). He worked, in different capcities, in the Executive Committee of the above scientific societies. Professor Khan was elected Member of Senate, University of Dhaka (1989 - 1991). He served as a Member of NCST subcommittee on BCSIR as Convener of DDT Technical sub-committee, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation
