B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics, Dhaka University, 1971; M.Sc. (Thesis group ) in Physics, Dhaka University, 1973; Ph.D. in Physics, IIT, New Delhi, 1980; Plasma Physics, Nuclear, Solid State Physics; Dusty Plasma Physics, Waves, Instabilities, Space Physics, Laser-produced Plasmas; Semiconductor Plasma Physics, Waveguides; Laser-plasma Beat Wave Accelerators; Nonlinear Interactions: Parametric instabilities, etc.
Awarded the H. P. Roy Gold Medal 1981 by the Dhaka University for Research in Physics; The Joint Award 1986 by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and The Third World Academy of Sciences, Trieste, Italy; Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Award 1988 for Research in Physics; "Kharazmi International Prize (1994)" by Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (by President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani of the Islamic Republic of Iran); The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh Award (2001) for research contribution in Physics; Senior Scientist Award-2002 by Bangladesh Academy of Sciences; ISESCO Science Prize 2003 at the OIC meeting, Tehran, Iran.
