Biography

Matriculation in 1954 from Jessore Zilla School, Interme- diate Science, 1956 from Rajshahi Govt. College; B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics, 1959 from Dhaka University; M.Sc. (Physics), 1960 from Dhaka University, Diploma in Advanced Studies in 1962 (Manchester University, UK); Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics, 1965 (Manchester University, U.K.).
Scientific Officer, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), 1961 - 1965; Senior Scientific Officer, AEC 1970 - 1974; Chief Scientific Officer, AEC, 1975 - 1982, Professor of Physics, University of Dhaka, 1982. Also visited and worked in a number of research
(i) Was awarded a number of scholarships including the H.P. Roy Gold Medal in 1974 by the University of Dhaka for original contributions to Nuclear Physics; (ii) as a mark of recognition of career and contributions to Nuclear Physics, has been made life-long Honorary Professor of Physics in 1973 by the University of Dhaka; (iii) was awarded the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Glod Medal in 1984 (Physical Sciences, Senior Gorup).
(i) Teaching at the Graduate and Post-graduate levels for more than 25 years. Subjects taught include quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, mathematical methods of physics, etc. (ii) Developed a special aptitude for teaching physics in an integrated manner pointing to the unity of physics and suggested at national and international conference ways and means of creating interest in physics education at all levels
Published more than 50 research papers in international journals of repute. The fields of research include the following: 1. Study of three body problems in Nuclear Physics. 2. Resonating group studies of light nuclei. 3. Phenomenological studies of the alpha-alpha interaction. 4. Study of lambda-nucleon and lambda-lambda interactions from analysis of lambda hypernuclear system. 5. Study of non-local interactions in the co-ordinate representation. 6. Study of equivalent local interactions. 7. Studies of the local as well as non-local folding model for nuclear reactions.
