Biography

He passed the Matriculation and I.Sc. Examinations of Calcutta University from Rajshahi Collegiate School and Rajshahi College, respectively in the First Division securing First Grade scholarships. In 1950 he got a First Class Honours degree in Physics from Dhaka University and was awarded the Raja Kalinarayan Scholarship. Next year he passed the M.Sc. examination of Dhaka University in the First Class. In 1960 he received Ph.D. degree from the University of Liverpool, England.
Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics
In 1952 he was appointed a Lecturer in Physics at the University of Dhaka. In 1962 he became a Reader in Physics and in 1970 a Professor of Physics. In 1984 he was appointed the Bose Professor of Physics. He was Director of the Renewable Energy Research Centre, Dhaka University from 1983 - 1990 and Dean of Science, 1983 - 1985. He retired from the University in 1990 and was reappointed for a further period of five years.
He has to his credit over 100 international and national publications
Professor Hussain visited a number of research institutions and various countries including England, France, Germany, Italy, USA, India, Thailand, Sri Lanka and China. He has attended a large number of international and national conferences, workshops and seminars
Professor Hussain has been a Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and of Bangladesh Physical Society. He was the President of the Bangladesh Physical Society for 1987 and 1988 and has been the President of Bangladesh Solar Energy Society since 1991.
