Professor Lewis is a Fellow of the Royal Society and also Member and Fellow of a very large number of Scientific Societies, Academies and Associations in U. K. and other countries of the world. He heads a number of institutions and was the President of Royal Society of Chemistry. Professor Lewis has been awarded D.Sc. Honoris Causa degree by a number of Universites in U. K., Europe, U.S.A. and Canada. He became a honorary Fellow of University College, London in 1990 and also a Honorary Fellow of UMIST in the same year. He also received the D. Univ. of Open University in 1982 and of Kingston University in 1993. Lord Lewis was elected a Foreign Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 1993.
