| He passed Matri- culation examination from Kalihati R.S High School in 1962 with First Division. He had his B.Sc. (Ag.) degree in 1967 with Fifth Position in First Class from the then East Pakistan Agricultural University, Mymensingh. He had his M.Sc. (Ag.) degree in Entomology in 1968 from the same University with First Position in First Class. Throughout his student life in the University he enjoyed talent scheme scholarship. As a Commonwealth scholar, he obtained Ph. D. degree and DIC in Entomology from Imperial Collage of Science and Technology, University of London, UK. | |

| Starting his career as Scientific Officer in Radiation Genetics Institute (RAGEN) located at Atomic Energy Centre, Dhaka 1970, he subsequently held positions as Head, Entomology Division, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh; Sugarcane Research Institute, Ishurdi. He was appointed Member Director (Planning and Evaluation) in 1986 and Member Director (Crops) in September 1995 at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council. Afterwards he was appointed Director General, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 1997 and Director General, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute with effect from December 1997. He was then transferred to take up the position of Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council in April, 2001. He voluntarily retired from this position in October, 2001 and joined International Rice Research Institute as Liaison Scientist for Bangladesh stationed in Dhaka. | |
| He has 39 research publications in national and international journals. He is the Editor of three workshop proceedings. He has four International symposium presentations and four consultancy reports. He has authored two reference books on Entomology written in Bengali. | |

Ex-office responsibilities: (a) Member of the Board of Regents of Institute of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture (IPSA), subsequently renamed as Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman Agricultural University; (b) Member, Academic Council, Rajshahi University; (c) Member, Steering Committee, Extension Policy Implementation Coordination Committee, Ministry of Agriculture; (d) Member, Steering Committee of two IPM Projects of DAE; (e) Member; Executive Council of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council; (f) Member, Governing Board, SAARC Agricultural Information Centre, (g) Member, Senate, Open University; (h) Member, Pesticide Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC).
