B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry with First Position in First Class, Dhaka University, 1986; M.Sc. in Biochemistry with First Position in First Class, Dhaka University, 1969; Ph.D. in Human Nutrition, University of Surrey, England, 1976.
Commonwealth scholarship by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, UK, 1973; H. P. Roy Gold Medal by the Dhaka University, 1979; Post-doctoral Research fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (1981 - 1983) and (1985 - 1986); Justice Ibrahim Memorial Gold Medal by the Dhaka University, 1991; Halima-Sharafuddin Award by the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (1993); Nutrition Award by the Nutrition Society of Bangladesh, 2002.
Lecturer (1970 - 1976), Assistant Professor (1976 - 1979), Associate Professor (1979 - 1985) and Professor (1985 - to date) in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dhaka University; Project Director/Vice- Chancellor, Patuakhali Science and Technology University (1999 - 2001); Part - time Faculty of the James P.
